Case n°393320

Council of State
20 March 2017

Facts

A civil servant working in a police station disclosed detailed and precise information on the areas of municipal police activity in which he was involved, via a personal blog and personal social media accounts. The information disseminated by the applicant was such as to give access to information relating to the organisation of the municipal police service, in particular the video surveillance systems. The applicant was dismissed of his job for these actions and complained to the Court, asking to cancel his dismissal.

Court’s ruling

The Court rejected the applicant’s request and found that the applicant had breached his duty of professional discretion.
