The Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights belongs to the United Nations. It is a body of international experts that oversees the implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights , which is an international human rights treaty.

This treaty lists and explains a number of human rights. For example, the right to work, the right to equality between men and women, the right to health, the right to education, freedom from discrimination, the right to strike etc., which the states must guarantee for every person within their territory and control. France has agreed to observe these rights by ratifying both the Covenant and its Optional Protocol.

The Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights has the power to examine your complaint about a violation of any rights listed in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. Its decisions are not legally binding, but they carry serious political weight, and the states usually take these findings into account.

The Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights works on the basis of the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
